Uplift

Taking care and compassion to the homeless, this ministry provides a nutritious, home-cooked meal for those living on the streets, under overpasses, in cars and cardboard boxes. On the 4th and 5th Mondays of the month, volunteers prepare a delicious meal in their homes (click here for recipes). They bring the prepared meal in aluminum containers (available at St. Michael's) marked "UPLIFT" to church by Monday at 3 pm and place it in the refrigerator in the kitchen. The meal is heated up, if necessary, and then taken to Uplift at 18th Street & Truman Road. The food is put on vans and delivered right to the homeless that night. The meal that you lovingly prepare in your homes is fed directly to those who do not have the benefit of a home in which to cook their own meal. If you want to be a part of this ministry, contact Debbie Kremers, kremers6@aol.com, to cook meals for the 4th Monday of every month, or Sandy Edmunds at sandy@ndnetwork.com to cook on the occasional 5th Monday of the month.
Jim and Margie Burton are part of a team of volunteers that ride on the vans to help deliver meals directly to the homeless where they live. Contact Margie, m-burton@spectrumsales.net, if you would like to help with this side of the ministry. There are only five seats available on each of three vans that go out three nights a week – Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Please let us know well in advance if there is a time you would like to join us in this ministry.
