St. Michael's Foundation

The St. Michael and All Angels Foundation is a separate 501(c) 3 entity of the church. The board of directors is comprised of church members. It is funded by private donations and endowments from our members. Gifts can be made at any time. We look for opportunities to help projects that our church members support with their volunteer time as well as helping the church meet its operating requirements.

The current members of the St. Michael and All Angels Foundation are Susan Britton, Sharon Douglass, Bob Dockhorn, Charlie Wetlzer, Corey Ziegler, Amy Nachitgal, and LeRoy Unruh. We usually meet once a month to discuss our investments and tend to other business.

This past year we have been negotiating with the IRS about our tax return status. We were successful and the IRS now recognizes the foundation as a 501c (3) organization and as a public charity that does not need to file a tax return.

We also reviewed grant requests from several local organizations. Our criteria for selecting which groups would receive financial help from us included how many parishioners volunteered their time, how closely their mission statement matched ours and how many sources of revenue they had. We disbursed money to St. Michael and All Angels, Breakfast at St Paul’s, the Crossroads Campaign, Health Partnership Clinic, Kansas to Kenya project, SAFEHOME and the Haiti project. This next year we will make more grants and the investment returns this year have been above the indices we compare them to, however, the overall investment markets have performed poorly so far this year.
