Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) of Johnson County

Johnson County Interfaith Hospitality Network, Inc. is a nonprofit organization serving homeless families in Johnson County, Kansas. Our mission is to unite and enable the faith community to provide homeless families with emergency shelter and meals, as well as compassionate assistance with social services, and relationships with caring people in the faith community. We hope to return the homeless families to a renewed sense of dignity and hope, and independent living in the shortest time possible (source: www.jocoihn.org).

St. Michael's serves as a support congregation to Knox Presbyterian, located at 9595 W. 95th St., Overland Park, KS. Support congregations and groups partner with host congregations to provide volunteers and help with meals, as mutually agreed.

Host congregations provide overnight accommodations and meals for homeless families (up to 14 people in 4 or 5 families) for one week at a time every three or four months. Host congregations utilize volunteers to set up the hosting area, prepare meals for guests, provide supplies for the host week, plan activities for the guests, and serve as hosts during mealtimes, evening activities and overnight shifts. Each congregation has a primary coordinator who works with the Executive Director to coordinate the congregation's IHN program. JoCoIHN provides training for all of the congregation's volunteers.

As a support congregation we have the opportunity to provide meals, spend time in the evenings supporting the families with activities and taking an overnight shift. For more information contact David Breece, d_breece@hotmail.com, or Chris Field, tinafield@kc.rr.com.
