Daughters of the King
The St. Teresa of Avila chapter of the Order of the Daughters of the King is a group of women here at St. Michael and All Angels who have taken a vow to live out their lives in daily prayer, service, and evangelism. The mission of the Order is the extension of Christ’s Kingdom through these three facets of daily life, and believing it is the Holy Spirit who empowers us to become reflections of God’s love throughout the world. Outreach to those who live amongst us, around our neighborhoods, and across the globe is a part of our conscientious effort to bring others into relationship with Jesus Christ.
In 2012-13, there are a number of ways that DOK are reaching out into our community and beyond. We will be continuing our prayer partnership with our Sisters in Torbeck, Haiti, as we send letters and pictures along with the mission groups who travel to Haiti. We will send warm clothing to Uplift as the fall weather cools the homeless, Christmas Boxes to the children around the world through Operation Christmas Child, canned foods for St. Paul’s Food Pantry, art supplies and dental needs for the children of Safehome and Operation Breakthrough, and in the spring, flowers will be blessed and taken to our home-bound parishioners. Each month we will focus on reaching beyond our own needs, and trying to share God’s abundant blessings and love with those who may feel left out and alone.
It is our Rule of Service that each Daughter daily seeks to do the will of God where she is, remembering Jesus’ words, “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these…you did it for me.”
Although founded many years ago, this is a ministry that meets the very contemporary need for women of all ages to be supported in their relationship with Christ and encouraged to serve Christ and care for the church.
Daughters of the King, founded in 1885, is an order for women in the Episcopal Church. Every daughter pledges herself to a lifelong program of prayer, service, and personal evangelism. After a period of training, each daughter makes a vow to Christ to continue in prayer and study and service.
For more information on how to become a member, you are invited to attend one of their monthly meetings on the first Monday of the month at 5:45 pm, or contact Lisa Adams, soadams@aol.com.
