Lent

Lent is a forty-day period of time that starts forty days prior to Easter. It is the traditional time of year to re-commit our lives to Jesus' teachings. Each year we offer many opportunities to express our devotion and to grow spiritually. Lenten offerings at St. Michael's provide us with the opportunity to reflect on Christ's sacrifice and our commitment to his calling by worshiping, studying, praying, and fasting together. Lenten offerings range from the intellectual to the deeply emotional and are scheduled both Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings.

The liturgical season of Lent invites Christians to “contemplate those mighty acts” of Jesus that reconciled human kind to God.

The drama of Lent is meant to invite participants to discover “the way of the cross” as the way of life. That means that through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus we are given the power to continue the work of reconciliation in his name.

The places in our lives and in this world that need reconciliation most are the place for Christians to be. In those difficult spots we will find Christ the peacemaker ready to bring freedom from sin and offering a new redeemed future.

Join in the journey from Ashes to Glory, where Christ is reconciling us all to the living God. Lenten classes in 2011 will begin on March 16th.
